No, when I was young I didn’t know what I wanted to do until secondary school, where I wanted to be an architect. I thought it was cool that you could design things and build them! But I was inspired by a teacher to do geography and geology, but I absolutely love what I do now and wouldn’t change it for the world.

No I wanted to be an Astronaut when I was really young, then when I was in secondary I chose to do Physics at uni as it was my favourite subject. I didn’t really know what jobs I could do so originally thought I’d be a teacher and signed up for the Physics teaching course. It wasn’t until I was at uni I realised I enjoyed experimental work more and that there were other jobs out there where you could do that.

No – I wanted to be an artist, or a cartoonist (I’d still love to work for The Beano!), an architect, an astronaut… I never grew tall enough for becoming an astronaut but I still found astrophysics really interesting, so I went to uni to study Physics. I enjoyed other bits of physics much more than astro, as I really enjoyed experiments, so that led me to this job.

I was really into all kinds of sports when I was young so I probably wanted to do something along those lines. While I was always good at science and maths I didn’t really think about wanting to do a job in those areas probably until A-level where I decided biology was the thing for me. School is a great time to explore what’s out there without the pressure of having to decide on anything specific yet – enjoy it!

I wanted to be a history teacher and actually did my undergrad in history. It was at uni that I discovered my love for environmental science and switched my field of study in graduate school!
